High School Exercise Program This Afternoon
At two thirty this afternoon the high school will present a patriotic program. Students will read President Wilson's reply to the peace proposals and feature a flag presented by Mr. R. W. Tansill. The program includes a glee club piece and a salute to the Kaiser and papal note extracts.

Winam C. Davidson of Roswell, highway superintendent for Eddy County, met local officials yesterday and returned this morning on road business. A. M. Howe, publicity agent for the Santa Fe at Amarillo, Texas, was here yesterday and left with his son William. his long interest in the valley is noted. The court and attorneys were delayed in Roswell last night as they planned auto travel. George William delivered a load of cows to Barnie Beech this week for range in the Black River area. J. H. Harrell and wife left for Hope to fetch apples for winter, visiting Mr. and Mrs. Newlander in Artesia.

Mrs Gerhran Rebuilds After California Home Fire
News from Carlsbad reports Mrs Gerhran once Mrs Hooly Cochran now living in California suffered a house fire that destroyed her new home and contents soon after moving in. Younger children were at school while older children and son Plenny were at home. Many friends in Roswell and the area express deep sorrow.

Ancient visitor returns to visit brother in Matador
J M Harkey of Matador Texas came Sunday to visit his brother D Harkey. They arrived by auto and plan to stay in town today. Harkey recalls traveling in 1908 with cattle when the area lacked a town and flour was hard to reach. He works as a Texas ranch farmer and is touring the valley.
