Paris May 31 Allied left flank on the Aisne front was driven back by a violent German attack near the Aflette river. German assaults near Sols and further south were repulsed, the French holding their positions. In the center the Germans won a slight advance north of the Marne as French forces countered at Chillols weet of Theimy.

Germans Push Toward Chateau-Thierry On the Marne Front

Paris dispatch reports German forces advancing south toward En Lardenois and near Chateau-Thierry while the towns remain in allied control. Chateau-Thierry’s fleeing population may be saved, as German units move toward the Marne river area south of Fere En Tardenois and Vexitty.

Public Utilities Company Donates to Red Cross Chapter

The Public Utilities Company contributed one hundred dollars from May sales to the local Red Cross chapter. If profits fell short the firm would cover the difference, and the full amount was turned over to the treasurer this week. Red Cross workers, aided by the donation, resume daily activities after Chautauqua week and thank the company for material purchases. Petrograd dispatch to the Daily Express says German reprisals on peasant disturbances in Ukraine drenched several villages near Kiev with gas. whole communities were asphyxiated. Ernest Best and family and Mins Willie Harmon and niece Callie Bartlet from Levington returned from a fishing trip on the Wack river reporting some fish but winds hindered the outing.
