Australians and British forces pushed forward their trenches near Sailly Le Sec by about five hundred yards on a six hundred yard front and gained ground three hundred yards west of Marlancourt, despite heavy German bombardment. British lines made a small advance in the Amiens sector between the Somme and Yves rivers after minor operations. artillery activity increased on the Flanders front between Meteren and Kemmel.
A May 2 report from London notes General Maurice's actions spark a political crisis shaping the Cabinet ahead of Lloyd George.
