London officials reported a German air raid as fifteen airships crossed the city early in the day. The raid prompted anti aircraft fire and aerial combat. The Earl of Derby announced in Parliament that forty nine people were killed and two hundred injured.

German submarine destroyed by the American steamship Broomland as merchantmen arrive in harbor. The Broomland rammed and sank a U boat after two torpedo attacks. The ship lost a blade from its propeller in the fight.
