Mr. Jones returns from Guadalupe county after twelve days overseeing three or four gangs of workers on a two hundred mile stretch from Kernw Wn Mexico to Encino. Deputy Sheriff Shot in New Mexico Duel

Deputy Sheriff Ofelio Silva was shot by Akin of Yeso near Fort Sumner New Mexico on July 16. Silva wounded in the left arm with both bones shattered and later taken to Albuquerque for treatment. Smith reportedly hid in a barn and fired as Silva pursued him harming another man.

Santa Fe News Lists Taos County Resources for Road Plan

H B Hening of the state land office will spend a week in Taos listing resources and attractions as Santa Fe pursues an extension line from Ute Park through Taos Valley to Santa Fe via Penasco Santa Cruz and Teauque. Builders of the Eagle's Nest dam plan a tunnel through the dam to avoid weakening the structure. The dam, heavy with water, is noted for its historic value and awaits the potential extension project.

Austria urged to cut loose from Germany by ex Czech minister

In Zurich on July 16 a Vienna dispatch reports former Czech minister Herr Praschek telling the Austrian reichsrat that the hate of the world is aimed at Germany, not Austria. He urged Austria to detach from its German ally to seek peace and avoid sacrificing Austrian interests to German expansion and militarism.

Arrest of New Mexico citizen for dam fishing

Soldiers of the National Guard stationed at Elephant Butte arrested Robert Davis of New Mexico for fishing near the Elephant Butte dam. Davis was fined 25 dollars after a judge’s case, with an appeal to the county court. The action drew from the guard a note that the fishing did not deprive their amusement, but affected their food supply.
