Smugglers Employ Tricks to Move Food Into Mexico
Smugglers along the Mexican border are using familiar devices from jewelry and cigarette trafficking to smuggle contraband foodstuffs into Mexico through the port. False bottles in trunks wagons and two floor auto trucks plus carts with partitions are reported. A large consignment of lard and sugar was found beneath merchandise on a commission broker float and the broker’s license was revoked amid efforts to curb the embargo. Authorities suspect a contraband ring linked to Germans in Mexico.
