Rally Day for Our Churches Sunday Oct 5

The seven Protestant churches of St Johnsbury unite to observe Sunday Oct 5 as a rally day for religious activities. Pastors will give special addresses on progressive and aggressive Christian work. Eastern Star Meeting in Lyndonville Draws 150 Members

Six lodges from the fifth district gathered in Lyndonville with over 150 members attending. West Burke presented the work, Lyndonville hosted a bounteous repast, and Grand Officers gave addresses including Mrs. L. N. Smythe and Francis Cutting. A large district delegation enjoyed a social hour afterward.

Adelina Patti Dies At Penyear Castle In Wales

Adelina Patti, famed soprano born in Madrid February 19 1845, died today at Penyear Castle in southern Wales. Daughter of a Spanish mother and Italian singer, she debuted in New York at seven and graced London in 1861 before a long European tour of triumphs. Her first husband was a French marquis in Napoleon II’s circle. after his death in 1898 she married Baron Cederstrom in 1899 and largely retired from public life.
