Damaging Storm Strikes Barton and Newport Homes
A severe midweek thunderstorm caused significant damage around Barton with a road nearly destroyed and rainfall losses totaling several thousand dollars. Lightning struck Charles A. Clark’s Newport home, tearing a roof hole and flooding rooms, killed three cows owned by George Tlervick, and hit other properties including the Akin cottage at The Claffs. Mrs. Percy suffered a minor shock at the cottage, while a shed burned from the strike.
