John Leclair was found dead Friday night in his barn four miles from the main road through Gallups Mills Victory. He lay between two cows with one dead over him as a hunter from Victory discovered the body while surveying traps. Selectmen were notified immediately.
Phenomenal speed and skill marked the wrestling card at Pass Time Hall in Newport on Wednesday evening. Charles Borellit, Vermont welterweight champion, defeated James Pappas of Burlington, the 150 pound Greek champion. It was among the fastest and cleanest bouts seen in Newport with 200 spectators present.
A federal judge granted a temporary injunction against selling ships by the Shipping Board after an examination of statutes found no clear congressional grant of power to transfer ships to the Shipping Board. William Randolph Hearst filed the injunction motion last Saturday. Chairman Payne stated an immediate appeal would be filed if the injunction stands. Hearst may need to post bond to cover potential losses from idle vessels.
Bishop Edwin Hughes urged a broad evangelistic drive within the Methodist church calling on ministers and laymen to start a personal campaign to win souls for the Kingdom of God. He praised the private soldier more than generals and urged lay participation to break ministerial monopoly and spread church outreach.
Dr Rees unfolds a sermon on Paul in Athens, linking the unknown God to modern repentance. He urges emphasis on the word now and reflects on a mature faith in a town with long preaching history. Continued on page two.
President Wilson finished drafting and sent to Acting Secretary Polk a reply to the Allied Supreme Council on the Adriatic issue. The briefures indicate the note addresses each contention point and follows his February 10 position. The note was prepared in two hours after 9:20 p m. by the president.
February report from Washington notes President Wilson has improved enough to work daily in his study at 9 30 a m. Rear Admiral Grayson stated the president still has not resumed using his typewriter.
