Newport city schools trustees announce a $100 bonus for city teachers after considering the petition from teachers and the statewide push for higher salaries. The board notes the amount fits within the prior year's appropriation and expresses sympathy with teachers while limiting the grant.

In Lexington a mob attacked during the William Lockett murder trial, four people were killed and many injured as troops fired on rioters. Lockett, a convicted murderer, was spirited away to safety amid heavy security as two women were among the wounded. In Louisville reports described looting and a governor’s appeal for troops to protect the prisoner and restore order.
