Car of Cotton Burns in Newport Freight Yard Fire

A cotton car attached to a 60 car freight train burned in the South yards of Newport on Friday. Water from the tank failed to douse the flames, and the tank eventually caught fire. Newport airport fire units arrived and, with chemical and hose wagons, extinguished the blaze at the base of the water tank. The burning car and its contents were dumped into the lake to prevent further spread.
