Paris reports French government notifies German chargé d'affaires of actions planned as German troops withdraw from the neutral Rhine zone. Premier Miller vows immediate withdrawal under Article 62 terms, recalling Belleau Wood and St Mihiel battles as call to duty.
Japanese troops occupied Vladivostok after eight hours of heavy fighting. The imperial flag flew over public buildings as resistance collapsed. An official U S dispatch cited Russian army actions as the cause and noted a proclamation by the Japanese commander claiming to restore order.
In Wareham Massachusetts on East Wareham road an early morning crash returning from a Marion dance killed Dorothy Alley 18 and Joseph Swain 29. Five others Edith Cornelia Mary Swabb and Harold Percy were injured with varying injuries.
Easter Sunday services drew unusually large crowds across Newport churches. St Mary Catholic Church reported over 1504 worshippers, with multiple priests assisting and candles lighting the altar. Other churches held well attended morning services and a Sunday school concert directed by Mrs. Cousens and assistants, adding new members by confession of faith and letters from Pembroke Ont.
City Council last evening approved final plans for a new State Armory on Main Street to be erected this summer within existing funds. The brick and steel building will include offices council rooms vaults club rooms and spaces for the American Legion Post. Main hall and shed area will be notably large and fireproof capacity. Others at the meeting included Mayor James T. Gardner and several council members.
Detroit April 6 with about half the precincts in Johnson leads Wood by 144657 votes for Republican endorsement. HoOvers leads Democratic ticket with 11464 over Bednaris 10250 and McAdoo 9258.
