On Saturday night members of the A. W. and A. M. organized a local lodge in Walker Hall with J. I. Lasater as Worshipful Master and J. E. Braxton as Senior Warden. Ten masons joined as charter members and will meet weekly, inviting all valley Masons to join and transfer demits.
Born Sunday afternoon to Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Pauley, the child lived only a few hours before death claimed it. The family has the sympathy of many friends in their bereavement.
Louis Trauer from Albuquerque shipped a large consignment of sheep to the San Luis Valley Colorado for feeding before reexport to eastern markets. He has bought most valley sheep this year for Sylvester Bros. of Monte Vista and helped establish a local market, earning wide appreciation for fair dealing and liberality.
John W. Corbett offers 2.50 for the heaviest watered melon in Torrance county and 2.50 for the heaviest grown without irrigation. Entries must be left at his Estancia office by Thursday or at Mountainair via Wm. M. McCoy & Co. by Friday. all melons become his property.
All interested in improving the cemetery southwest of town are requested to meet at the Probate Clerk's office in the courthouse on Saturday afternoon September 8 at 3 o'clock. The gathering aims to take steps for serving and improving said grounds.
Governor Hagerman issues a proclamation redrawing territorial legislative districts with listed county groupings and vote totals. House districts and council districts are defined, each with specified unit votes, reflecting changes per the New Mexican’s prior publication.

Delegates named include J P Lasater, W D Wasson, M B Atkinson. Alternate delegates are W C Asher and M B Atkinson. Meeting adjourned to Sept 8.
Hon Solomon Luna sends copies of a letter inviting New Mexico sheep and wool growers to the Sheep and Wool Growers convention in Albuquerque September 18 to 21. The notice urges attendance, promises a voice for all growers, and aims to define NM growers' demands on grazing and leasing public land before adjournment.
The Adventists announce closing Tent Meetings with topics including The Sanctuary The 2300 Days and The Judgement Satan's Origin Work and Destiny The Nature and Destiny of Man The Millennium and The Punishment of the Wicked Attendance has been strong and organizers thank the public for kindness shown.
