Boss rule is overthrown in county election returns

Complete and semi official returns from sixteen precincts show Democrats winning majorities in most races last Tuesday. Superintendent of Schools still in doubt with Palma Punta and Duran precincts pending, while Republican gains appear in Torreon and Tajique. Majorities range from a few votes to about four hundred. Julius Meyer will likely be sheriff, E W Roberson probate clerk, and Larrazolo leads county totals by over three hundred votes.

Pair Weds in City as Charivari Welcomes New Home

Cilis Ewing J and D Ewing with Justice R J are the couple. both well known in the city. The bride is a daughter of Hulis, proprietor of the Bilis Cafe. Neighbors gave a lively charivari last evening at their newly established home.

Sparks at Valley Hotel End Turned Safe Fire Scare

Mrs Harry Averill faced a scare at the Valley Hotel when sparks from an improvised fire reheat caused a sharp report. The dining room decorations and walls were blackened but no injuries occurred. Rev A M Steele will preach next Sunday at 7 30 in the M E Church inviting all.

Eastern line to connect two loading camps for railroad spur

The article notes two loading camps near the New Mexico boundary with one camp already connected to the line from Albuquerque. John W. Collier of Estancia was appointed a member of the Territorial Mounted Police by Governor Curry last Friday. He has served in the Force before and is based at Estancia and regarded as an able and efficient officer.

Evangelists Detained Delaying Santa Fe Gospel Services

Evangelists Toy and Mrs. Montgomery advertised for Methodist Church services have been detained in Santa Fe. They will arrive in Estancia on Monday and stay through the coming week as meetings continue with strong attendance. The pastor expresses encouragement over the interest shown.

Andrews Claims Majority In National Election Returns

The National Election reports show Taft and Sherman leading Roosevelt in the popular vote with Taft nearing 300 of 454 electoral votes. Republicans hold a practical majority in Congress as incomplete state returns favor GOP results. In New Mexico, W H Andrews leads by about 1,075 votes with Sandoval County contested and Rio Arriba uncertain. both parties project only limited shifts from missing precincts.

Obituary of Emery Arnold Shirley in June Frost

The death of Emery Arnold Shirley at age four follows a fever after a three week illness. He died October 29 at his grandparents home, leaving loving parents and friends in Oklahoma and Estancia. The poem notes his bright life and peaceful passing, with a continuation on the first page.
