Fire destroyed the home of Futins Meyer, sheriff of Bain County, Sunday night around ten. The blaze started in the lower arc saving upper room. family escaped, furniture burned. Meyer carried about one thousand dollars in insurance, but total loss exceeded this amount as wind risk could have spread to nearby buildings.
The new linepipe for the artesian well arrived this week and was unloaded yesterday. Drilling will be resumed immediately as the well has reached about six hundred feet and is cased to the bottom. The drill is in solid rock after passing a pocket. Experts predict something interesting may appear once this rock stratum is pierced.
The New Mexico Central system lists changes starting next Monday with a northbound train due Estancia at 12 42 p m and a southbound at 6 45 p m Neither train will stop for meals A freight train carrying passengers will depart Santa Fe on Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays at 7 30 a m and Estancia at 1 15 p m Going north the freight leaves Torrance on Tuesdays Thursdays and Saturdays at 7 20 p m and Estancia at 10 28 a m

The Ladies Aid Society met at Mrs. Johnson Pence’s home on Wednesday afternoon for an enjoyable and interesting gathering. The next meeting will be with Mrs. John Collier. They voted to finish the church walls with a hard white plaster coat, plan carpet updates, and enhance the room’s appearance. Rev. A. M. Steele will lead Sunday’s services with the sermon titled What Christianity Means. Sunday School attendance rose to a high point this year, and a midweek song service is planned.
Mass will be celebrated at the house of Celestino Ortiz over the grocery on next Monday May 24 with Rev Father Bessett of Santa Fe officiating.

Mrs Jane A Dunlavy died last Friday in Trinidad Colorado at nearly sixty. She leaves six sons and five daughters including Wilbur A Dunlavy of Willard and James P Dunlavy of Mountainair. A native of Pennsylvania she moved to Colorado early and is buried beside her husband who passed away nearly ten years ago. Funeral services were conducted Sunday by the M E Church pastor.
Additional locals George Endicott and son Roy arrived by yesterday's train from Newkirk Oklahoma. Mrs Laws and daughter Lella of McIntosh were in Estancia yesterday for shopping. R R Nelson of Willard handled county seat business yesterday. Editor Forbes of the Willard Record attended to business in the county seat last Saturday.
Elder D T Broadus of Moriarty filled his regular appointment at the local Church of Christ last Sunday in a standing service.
Mizell undertakes a fresh coat of interior paint this week at The Leaderstore, applying new color and improving the store’s appearance. The project focuses on renewing walls and spaces across the premises.
