Agitation over county bond issuance dominates a meeting as Theodore Roosevelt is poised to take the oath of office. Citizens rally behind him, praising his unity and liberty stance while board officials face questions over contract disclosures and bond flotation terms.
Governor Otero sent the council Prof TMisam Hadley M A of Las Cruces for territorial superintendent of public instruction. Hadley, a New Mexico resident for over twenty years, hails from Indiana where he helped shape a top ranked school system. The educational association urged a practical administrator and named several candidates, with Hadley ultimately favored.
The Santee Central line about thirty nine miles from Santa Fe endures high water from melting mountain snows. A work train operated Friday to save track and bridge No 62, and by Saturday water subsided with expectations of no further trouble. The company is using grit and hard work to keep trains on schedule.
Tuesday Ear nest Duke injured while working on engine blades when a boiler pipe swung loose, Gro ver Barnefeld was fitting the pipe. Duke received burns and was taken to his room at the Islands Hotel. He rose Wednesday morning and hopes for a full recovery after rest.

A bold amendment to the Indian appropriation bill proposing a merged state drew the sharpest opposition.
A pleasant dance hosted by Bond and Taylor in their store room last Saturday night drew about twenty couples. Music by Whitlock, Duke, Zink, and Flores set a lively pace as the evening faded toward midnight.
