The Estancia box factory starts operations with machinery in motion. Mr. Comer oversees installation as the planer begins shaping flooring. The new buildings are commodious, well built, and reflect a sizable investment for the town.
J P Dunlavy filed in Santa Fe county for injunction against J D Hunter and L H Mullen to stop liquor sales at the Mountainair Chautauqua. A temporary injunction was issued and August 4 set for hearing to make the ban permanent. Mountainair remains the only notable dry town in New Mexico with an active local Anti Saloon league.
A young professional man seeks a wife to help run a home. The deputy clerk offers to issue the license gratis and a minister provides free services. Interested young ladies may call at the News office for details about building a desirable home. Antonio Salazar visits from his sheep ranch near Bianca for business matters.
A Saturday dance at the rail and hex factory aims to raise pesos for an image whistle to be heard for miles. Some youths say Estancia will make more noise with the whistle and intend to use it as a fire whistle. Estancia Orchestra donates music. newspapers advertise. all are invited to contribute tickets.
Incorporation papers filed yesterday in the territorial secretary office show Santa Fe will have a third bank with capitalization of 30000 dollars. Incorporators and directors are J. W. Mermont A J Green and C L Boylds with J W Mermont named as New Mezigo agent.
The Board of Education of Santa Fe chose Miss Maude Hancock of Astanela for the second grade. Hancock was also re elected to her former post at Belen with a likely salary raise.
Mr. Tedwell made a trip to Mountainair for the Gret of this apportionment of school funds as reported.
Word reached today that Wilbur the infant son of Mr. and Mrs John W Colead died after a two week illness. The child was bright and well loved, with many friends who mourn his loss. Mrs J W Turner died this morning at the ranch home north of town after a long illness. The funeral will be held tomorrow.
D. D. Smith of Valley View and others were in Estancia this week with business and social notes. Births include a son to S. A. Goldsmith and a daughter to E. N. Peden, with both mothers and babies reported healthy. A new rain improved crops, but D. D. Smith's daughter died after illness. burial at McIntosh cemetery. Beulah Rayburn visited her parents near Dondee Texas.
Judge Gabino Baca presided in Estancia for a special probate session. The court appointed guardians and administrators for multiple estates including Sedillo, Chavez y Sedillo, and Mussen, and approved several claims. A hearing is set for November with all interested parties ordered to appear.
Jett Elgin returns with his bride from Oregon where he has stayed months. The marriage came as a surprise to friends who were not let into the secret. They are now stopping with Mr and Mrs Will Elgin.
On Sunday afternoon at the courthouse Reverend A M Steele of the Methodist Church united Miss Nannie Elder and J Noffian of Lucia in marriage with only the necessary witnesses present. Mr and Mrs Norman left on the evening train for Lucia to establish their home.
At the courthouse Wednesday morning Rev. A. M. Steele, the marrying parson, spoke the words joining for life Miss Lillie Williams and John Garland. Mr. and Mrs. Garland will make their future home at Mountain Air.
Markey Glayworth and Marl Silayworth traveled from froméviarty to obtain a marriage license. They appear set to wed soon, with the couple likely to have married prior to this notice.
The twenty ninth New Mexico Fair intends to stage a record Marathon at Traction Park during the carnival next fall. Abbott and Muniz from Trinidad are expected entrants along with Leopoldo Jesus and Laddi the Zuni winners from Carbon City. The race will feature ten miles with strong southwest talent and close city crowds.
Rev Antonio Bessett of Santa Fe will conduct services at the house of Celestine Ortia on Penday Encanta July 2 at 9 o clock. Catholics and others invited to attend the event.
A Boston newspaper cites a New Mexico resident who documents rapid educational gains in the territory. It notes 50 000 of 80 000 school age children in public schools, about 1 000 teachers, and $1 000 000 in school property with annual costs of $539 964, praising a century of progress in education.
Dr C E Ewing, who has been visiting home folk in Angola Indiana, announces he will be back this week and ready to handle any dental work on Monday July 26 at his Estancia office. The doctor notes a hot time in the Hoosier state.
The Presbyteriana will hold services at the M. E. Church next Sunday morning with special music. All are invited. The Westminister Circle met with Mrs. M. B. Atkinson on Wednesday afternoon with good attendance and an interesting session. The next meeting will be with Miss Nervis.
Adolfo Salaz of Chilili visited Abiences on Tuesday as a business guest, engaging in meetings and discussions.
