The Tor rance County institute begins next Monday at the Estancia Schoolhouse led by Prof. E. J. Vert from the Las Vegas Normal School. All teachers and aspiring teachers are urged to attend as the gathering runs for two weeks followed by the annual teachers examination.
On a Tuesday morning a fire destroyed one buri-car in the local yards. Weary Willie, alias Michael McCarthy, had been living there. Rainy weather led to a tire catching fire, nap time, and the blaze spreading. Fifteen townsmen led by Jack Kelley and Bill Reed shifted other cars to safety, extinguishing the flames at the water crane. No other damage occurred. the town may breathe easier if Mike is removed.

A large crowd from Estancia and mountain towns celebrated Independence Day in the Estancia Valley. Despite morning rain, several hundred attended the park event with a barbecue prepped by John Black and George Steele, musical by the Capital City Band, and speeches by Judge Morrison. The Estancia team lost 18 to 8 to a Santa Fe eleven. Bedford won the ball roping contest in eleven and a half seconds. Evening dancing at the Valley Hotel capped a day described as memorable and hospitable.
George W. Ford of Torreon wed Miss Mada Brown with Justice Gregg and Judge Grog officiating at the sister’s home, after securing necessary papers. The wedding marks a Fourth of July celebration with a local ceremony and family presence.
The Weather Report for Estancia New Mexico lists daily maximum and minimum temperatures and the 5 pm reading for June 29 through July inclusive, as reported by the Weather Bureau.
A four oclock Monday rain soaked the valley then drizzled through the night. Tuesday measured .51 inches, aiding crops. Hail battered the McGillivary ranch with sheep losses exceeding five hundred. A burro boy drowned or died possibly from hail or flood currents. cause of death uncertain.
Miss Ella Owens of the Central Hotel plans a two story building on Fifth Street. The current structure will be moved to another site and a frame 20 by 50 feet building will replace it. The first floor will house the M E Davis Co store and the upper floor will be used for guest rooms at the hotel.
The Torrance County Normal School will open July 9 1906 at Estancia at 10am with Prof Edmund J Vert as conductor. The term lasts two weeks and the tuition is 2.00 per attendee. Following the term, beginning July 28 1906 at 10am, the teachers examination will be held at the same place.
A ten dollar reward is offered for the return of a sorrel mare missing since June 19. The horse is years old with a blaze face, good flesh, a short tail, and branded R on the left shoulder. Sent to Chas. R Graham of Estancia New Mexico for recovery.
