A Rock Island passenger train bound from Paso to Chicago derailed after striking an open switch near Barney New Mexico. Five killed and 11 injured including a Mexican family and three Arabs. The engineer H F Ackley and fireman E J Redfield died on impact. Rev Pope conducted services.
