Albuquerque Journal reports plans to establish regular through service over the Belen cut-off on the eighteenth of the month. The eight inch hole reaches under eight hundred feet. a drill bit eight inches long and eight inches in diameter became stuck, the derrick cap damaged timbers, and a grappling setup is being prepared to recover the bit. Clark Must Serve Term In Territorial Penitentiary
The New Mexico Supreme Court affirmed the lower court ruling sentencing Jap Clark to seven years in the territorial penitentiary for the 1906 killing of Deputy Sheriff Chase at Torrance. Attorney A B Renehan argued Estancia was not Torrance county seat and that Progreso should be the seat, based on the Springer act. The court did not overrule this county seat objection, though it upheld the general evidence against Clark.

New Assistant Superintendent Acasio Gallegos Named
Acasio Gallegos of Floresta named assistant to Superintendent J E Clark and started duties in the Territorial Capitol last week. The former assistant Alfredo Sanchez died New Year's Eve of consumption at his mother's home. Gallegos taught in San Miguel Lincoln and Torrance counties, then entered real estate and practiced law before justice and land courts. He has long been a personal friend of Governor Curry in Lincoln County.
