Santa Fe Central employees finalize arrangements for a dance in Walker Building labeled as the first annual ball. Train orders issued to trainmen promise exclusive access to the event with double header shifts from 8:30 p.m. to 4 a.m. and protection against opposing trains.
Rev Father Besset of Santa Fe will celebrate Mass at Celestine Ortiz’s house near the store next Sunday morning at 9 o clock. All will be welcome.
A reader from Pleasant Hill Missouri on February 11 1908 praises the News and thanks the editor for the latest issue. The note includes 25 cents in stamps for a copy and compliments Mr Corbett s map Homeseekers questions and the Islands Valley write up.

Albuquerque sheep raiser Mr Willam McIntosh offers two prizes of 100 dollars each for the best wool exhibit and best sheep exhibit at the sixteenth National Irrigation Congress and Exposition. The gifts aim to boost enthusiasm and align New Mexico’s great industry with the event.
Territorial Superintendent Clark shares an 1908 opinion from Attorney General James M. Hervey affirming that homesteaders on public land may transfer portions of their preemption or homestead for school sites without jeopardizing title. The ruling cites Revised Statutes section 2288 and allows church cemetery school use and rail right of way transfers on homesteads.
A special Albuquerque trade excursion will depart March 10 and visit Estancia on Friday March 18. The effort led by Roy A. Stamm aims to assemble eighty plus members with forty willing to ride the train. District Agent W. R. Brown oversees railroad details and equipment includes two buffet Pullmans and a standard twelve-section car.
Temperance advocate Arthur Farwell spoke at Palmt Park arguing Chicago wastes millions on drinks. He listed lavish purchases from flour to furniture and argued closing saloons would fund homes, schools, police and fire departments, plus parks and public works.
County Superintendent Jaramillo reports a Territorial notice that all third grade teacher applicants who took the January 30 31 Estancia exam failed to submit papers in one required subject. A special exam will be held at the Valley Hotel Estancia February 20 1908 at 1 p.m. All applicants must appear or their papers will not be considered.
A scheduled bill proposes allowing the Territory of New Mexico to sell timber from lands granted to it under a 1898 act. It sets conditions for contracts, interior approvals, and payments, and provides that deeds transfer timber-cutting rights to record title holders with trust-held lands reconveyed to the territory.
Ladies Aid presents a Longfellow program on February 27 featuring songs and verses incl The Rainy Day and The Bridge with piano solos and audience participation. Proceeds fund chairs for the M E church, admission 25 cents.
