Estancia Schoolhouse Receives Notable Improvements

Estancia residents praise the refreshed school building as the neatest and most comfortable of its kind. A recent box supper and social raised funds for repairs, with strong turnout and generous support from local ladies. Calls grow to relocate the schoolhouse to the park’s southeast corner for easier access amid snowy weather.

Sleighing Party Ends With Split Tongue and Mishap

A dozen youths started a cozy sleigh ride last night but the sleigh objected. The party reached town safely before the sleigh and its tongue parted company and left the crowd to its fate.

New Bell for Services at Local School House

Rev R P Pope received a fine bell mounted at the school house for church and school use. Originally bought for the Baptist church at White Oaks, it was never hung. With the disbanding of that organization, Rev and Mrs Pope arranged its transfer to the local society and offered use to all denominations using the school building.

The new town site sells lots after Christmas as streets are cleared and lights prepared.

Homestead Final Proofs Schedule Adjusted

The General Land Office sets final proofs hearings for homesteads to fit the district agent’s schedule. Hearings will occur on the twenty first of the month if needed, with adjustments for holidays. Notices will be issued from the fourth to the fifth of the preceding month. Applicants will be notified to bring witnesses.

Moriarty District Social Notes and Moves of Locals

Moriarty Midgets and Arthur Milby visited Estancia last Sunday. A union Christmas tree was planted at Mrs Astler's home on Christmas Eve. Lena Booth of Estancia and Mr and Mrs Palkner of McIntosh were in Moriarty last Sunday. J Kirby came from Santa Fe last Saturday to help Mesars. Mr Spencer filled Mr Baldy’s absence as bookkeeper here. Duvlayy Mere:e Co. has sold out here. locals hope war prices keep Milby Baldwin and the new bookkeeper. Eilon Foster returns home after visiting Timnidust Coto. Willar Wadewade toured last Sunday. he doubts Moriarty will grow into a town. Mrs Crosley took a trip to Sandy City. Jim visited Wal and wife. Mrs Astler doubts the town but plans to stay. Huber of Cincinnati has a two week visit with Mrs Astler in New Mexico. A Women’s Sewing Circle was organized this Tuesday. weather kept members indoors the next day. Jolie McCormick plans to reopen a store in New York City but loves the West. John left Moriarty for future work. friends gave Mr Steward a surprise gathering Monday night. Mr Steward departs with nephew for Utah for several months.
