About twenty five young people staged a Wednesday evening surprise for Miss Esther Hence at Mrs. Will Elgin's home. They played games and enjoyed refreshments, and left wishing for many more such surprises. A joke by some young men led to her receiving several small remembrances.

Paper shortage forces weekly News to expand pages

An error in shipment from the Paper House and difficulty securing workers forced the News to run as a six column paper this week. To keep the same overall size the paper added two pages while maintaining the six column width, and a return to six column size is anticipated once paper supply improves.

First and Last Thanks giving program at Estancia schools

The Estancia pupils presented a courthouse program titled First and Last Thanksgiving last Friday night in a crowded court room. Scenes depicted Pilgrims and early settlers with lively songs and recitations.
