Murder at Willard Sand Pit Reveals Suspects in Mexican Worker Death
The body of Miguel Casias, 35, was found at Lucy sand pit 14 miles east of Willard. He died from gunshot wounds and a bludgeon blow. Suspects Leonardo Garcia and a companion, both former coworkers, fled after a quarrel likely sparked inside the tent. A coroner's jury found death by pistol shots and a blow with an ax. Casias’s wallet, $52, and a letter to his wife were found on him as deputies and mounted police chase the pair toward Mexico.

Drought Ends as Valley Receives two Weeks of Rain
A heavy shower Sunday, followed by further rain Monday and Monday night, broke the valley drought. Weather station records show thirty one hundredths of an inch Sunday and eighty three hundredths by Tuesday morning, with another eighty nine hundredths Wednesday night totaling two and thirteen one hundredths inches for the week. The rainfall benefits forage crops and winter feed, while soil conditions improve for fall breaking to be pursued vigorously.
Fighting of the Blames to headline Territorial Fair
P F McCanna says the Fighting of the Blames is a mammoth production and the biggest attraction at the territorial fair. It previously drew crowds at Coney Island and the White City and could be brought to Albuquerque. The fair also touts a rock drilling contest with $500 in prizes across six placements.
