A group led by James Walker H C Keen and J C Keen plans to incorporate to build and operate telephone lines linking Torrance County towns ranches and communities including Estancia Willard Moriarty. They will seek a franchise from the County Commissioners claiming early lines will boost growth and eventual profitability.
Wilbur A. Dunlavy and B. S. Jackson, both with the John Becker Co. in Willard and Torrance, have purchased the Blain Sears Co. general store at Willard. They will assume control once relieved by their current employer. The Sears family leaves due to Mrs. Sears health, and well wishes follow their departure.
The Weather Bureau reports daily maximum and minimum temperatures and 5 PM readings for Estancia New Mexico from August 3 to August 9. Data lists each day’s high and low, plus the temperature at 5 p.m. for citizen reference.
At the regular Ar tesian Well directorate meeting the main dispute was unpaid subscriptions delaying drilling. A committee will chase delinquents while four Fifth Avenue lots near Goodin's Livery Stable are chosen for the well. Drilling starts once funds are secured. directors are pressing late payers to act.
Elder H G Bedford of Church of Christ will preach next Sunday at 11 am and 7 30 pm at the school house. All are cordially invited to attend.
A party including Misses Soper Weaver Cowley Averill Merrill Angle and Messrs Fred Garnett Soper Joe Pope Young Weaver and McGhee left Monday with Mr and Mrs Weaver as chaperones to spend several days in the mountains. They expect to return with many fish and bear stories.
N H Griffith sold the J R Dixon residence at 10 161 Emereon Street Denver to P E Dunlavy of Santa Fe New Mexico for 11000 The house is described as one of the citys handsomest with ten rooms a billiard room and servant quarters in the basement It features large porches and ornamental yards Dunlavy formerly ran Danlavy Mercantile with stores in Santa Fe Torrance Willard Estancia Moriarty Kennedy He plans to move his family to Denver and occupy the home in August.
F EK Dunlavy resigned as superintendent of the Union Sunday School on the last Sunday. Mr Weaver was chosen as his successor. Parton was noted in the text with unclear details regarding tollia Veath stewed vice snoerins.
Rev. R. P. Pope and companions Mr and Mrs W C Walker E E Berry and J W Pope recently went to Mexico prospecting and returned last Saturday They report strange happenings and Pope was briefly jailed as a thief before being cleared by English speaking officer The group later invested in land and plan to reside after November first
J P Danlavy of Mountainair passed through town this week on his way to Santa Fe, marking a brief local transit note.
At the Estancia district school board meeting Miss Annie Gorham of Albuquerque was chosen principal and Miss Lara Nisbett assistant for the winter term. The school opens the first Monday in September the 2nd. The term is expected to last at least six months and parents are urged to ensure regular pupil attendance for a successful term.
In the Clerks Office licenses issued include deeds and liens for Estancia properties. Milton Don Henry Krick purchases Lot 4 block 12 with cons $250. G O Wolverton deeds Lot 4 block 42. G W Ford to Hughes Mercantile Co. four horses a harness wagon and six cows valued at cons $165. Wm McMillam deeds part of sections 12 and 13 4 8 Homestead filings show multiple entries across various sections and counties including Olney Texas Rush Springs Indian Territory Denison Texas and local names.
A pleasant gathering was held at the Nisbett home on Thursday night in honor of Sidney Cox visiting from Corona. About twenty young people attended and spent an enjoyable evening with pen games and social pastimes.
