Echo school in Spike neighborhood prepares for September 20 opening after a September 13 start with 150 pupils, expected to rise to about 170. The district retains most teachers, adds Miss Mayme Rippey as primary, and assigns Roberta Rippey, Ise Rippey, Verna Vanander, Margaret Winniford, C. A. Cannon, and L. W. Keeler to roles. Stanfield will host a general hardware store opened by J. E. Faucett and a Chicago party in the near future. The small river town shows strong progress as plans move forward.
A. O. Matthews and wife of Carthage Missouri arrived in Echo on Monday en route home from Seattle where they visited the exposition. They stopped to meet brother T D Matthews a Buttercreek stockman they had not seen for 30 years since leaving Missouri as boys. After a short stay in San Francisco.
Miss Grace Neal daughter of D D Neal of Echo drank a cup believed to contain water but held diamond dye. The liquid was a rank poison but the dose was not fatal after Dr Dorn used a stomach pump. She recovered with no lasting harm.

M C Baragar brought a 314 pound watermelon to Keho last week. It was grown on the Furnish Coe project above town. Baragar plans to plant 20 acres of orchard and rely less on California fruit.
