Oregon Shipped First Apples to China

The National Apple Show bulletin notes Oregon sent the first commercial shipment of apples to China from Grants Pass. Henry Miller, consul general to China, and his brother Frank J. Miller backed the effort, shipping 100 boxes of standard varieties to Shanghai. The Ben Davis variety proved best for travel and climate.

Mrs McLaughlin Dead In Pendleton at 75

Mrs. McLaughlin wife of Owen McLaughlin of Duncan died last night at St Anthony's hospital Pendleton after a three week illness aged 75 years five months. She was born in Ireland and moved to New York state with her parents where she married fifty years ago. Survived by four children Mrs J S McLeod Pendleton Mrs William Eagle Takoma James McLaughlin Duncan and Martin McLaughlin Duncan parishioner of St Marys church Pendleton funeral held in Pendleton Saturday.

School Openings Delayed One Week in Echo District

MCL Plans New Cement Head Gate and Dam

The Courtney Ditch Co plans to construct a cement head gate and lay a three foot cement pipe along the river bed for about 5000 feet. The headgate and dam will be built just below the bridge as engineers complete surveying and drafting plans.
