Rush County tax receipts exceed expectations at deadline
Treasurer C E B Leaphart and assistant Miss Marguerite kept busy last week as taxpayers rushed to pay 7 percent penalties due May 1. Payments overwhelmed the office, with many sending taxes by mail. The sheriff may receive remaining balances by May 15 when books close. Auditors will mail receipts after processing the large mail stack. Some taxpayers who did not sell cotton regret not paying earlier to avoid penalties.
