State tax relief plans proposed by legislature committee

A two day session of the Joint Legislative Committee on Economy and Consolidation in Columbia last week announced plans to reduce the state levy from nine to eight mills, postpone new building projects, and raise revenue by taxing those who escape fair share. The panel forecasts a potential saving of over 2,000 in 1921 terms and aims for ongoing annual savings through centralized operations, improved procurement, and closer financial control. The report will propose new revenue sources and a shift of tax burden to those currently under taxed, with findings by department and agency.
