Kemp er Teacherage Aims For Best Dillon County Facility

In 1919 Kemp er school district approved a 6 mill levy and bought an old unfinished residence in front of the school to convert into a teacherage. The dilapidated house was rebuilt with new exterior paint, three rooms and pantry-ceilinged, now resembling a newly built six room home with a fireplace in every room. It features a large hallway and a half-circle porch, with a sitting room and bedroom furnished by the school, making it the county’s best equipped teacherage though still lacking several conveniences.

Kemper School Growth Through Years Of Improvement

Five years of remodeling and additions have transformed Kemper School from a small two room house into an attractive, well ventilated building. A music room and cloak rooms were added, then a primary department room and more cloak rooms. The Tocom measures 28 by 31 and a half feet with forty six feet of blackboard and five large windows. The classrooms use folding doors to form a large hall for events, saving the need for an auditorium. The district levies 39 3 4 mills. The Kemper School Improvement Association held nine meetings and funded two entertainments that raised 186.53 dollars, aiming to improve the yard grounds, lighting, library, and classroom walls. An exhibit featured manual training drawings and writing, with honor rolls listed for each grade and a perfect attendance roll. Enrollment totals 181 students across primary, intermediate, and higher grades. Manna Ray
