Farm Money Bill Blocked by House Steering Committee
Washington June 17 Congress man W F Stevenson of Cheraw says Republican leaders in the House are blocking the import ant bill to deposit 50 000 000 of government funds with the Federal Farm Loan Board for loans and to issue 40 000 000 in bonds next September. The House banking and currency committee voted to report favorably but the Republican majority opposed. A compromise on a 26 000 000 deposit carried a joker that would have prevented more than 16 000 000. Democrats and a minority of Republicans removed the joker and will pursue the original instruction. The fight remains difficult due to opposition from the Republican steering committee.
