Cotton crop yields predicted amid supply squeeze
The American Cotton Association reports the indicated yield at 9,669,000 bales, with seed cotton and undersized bale additions bringing total to 10,120,000 bales. It warns a 15,000,000 bale U.S. crop would be needed to meet global demand, predicting higher prices for raw cotton and noting labor shortages and rising production costs. Indianapolis observers predict coal miners’ strike settlement is likely after today’s talks, crediting Acting President Lewis and Secretary-Treasurer Green for efforts.
