A stout hill fox sought refuge on a rocky shelf above St Johns in the Vale but was killed by a terrier from Blenentra hounds pack after hours of fierce resistance. The terrier, unwilling to abandon the fox, died from exposure during a bitter night, leaving both tor fox and dog dead at the dawn.
