Huron Fair Invites South Dakota Visitors September 16

The 1819 Huron South Dakota Fair opens September 16 with complete grounds and buildings ready. Exhibits aim to cover the state including a large livestock display and top Northwest cattle stock. McLaughlin Bros of Des Moines will showcase a carload of imported stallions shipped direct to Huron. The Woman's Department will be led by the local church ladies.

Soaoortine Carnival Features Daily Shows by Lady Aeronaut

The program of the carnival includes daily balloon ascents and parachute drops by a noted lady aeronaut. A Roman chariot race with eight horses runs each day. A Vaudeville Company offers two free performances daily. A high dive and water trapeze act, including the Monte Cristo routine, entertains audiences every day.

Racing Program for Tuesday and Thursday Events

A Minnesota style racing program lists Tuesday September 16 events at 2:30 trot and 2:20 pace with purses of 250 and 200, plus a 1/2 mile pony race. Thursday September 18 features an 8:00 trot free for all, a 3:00 trot or pace for Beadle county horses and a running mile dash, plus an automobile race.

Ladies Aid Sought for Hurons Fair Exhibit

The Central South Dakota Fair Association asks the ladies of Huron College to run the women’s department. Premiums may be donated to the college if exhibitors wish. Committees will visit town to collect exhibits and exhibitors should note premium wishes. The goal is a large, creditable display and a successful fair.
