Alonzo J. Whiteman once mayor of Duluth and ex Minnesota legislator and banker, after forgery conviction in San Francisco, receives nine years. Prosecutors present affidavits from Chicago questioning Frank Dixon and alleging Dixon may be a myth or Whiteman associate. Detective Pinkerton says Whiteman is among the country’s most accomplished forgers.
The South Dakota Supreme Court remanded ex-State Treasurer Taylor to the sheriff for immediate penitentiary custody. The court ruled the lower court lacked excess jurisdiction and allowed Taylor to challenge the five year sentence after serving two years.
