The Hipple case opened with ex-Auditor Hipple arraigned after the state officials were called. Defense asked for witnesses to post a bond for costs before the hearing, arguing political bias, but the request was overruled.
San Francisco October 26 A million dollar case involving 30 000 acres in Humboldt county goes to the United States circuit court of appeals. The United States sues the American Lumber company and Central Trust company in equity alleging fraud in locating timber lands by about 200 men and securing them with a trust deed to the Central Trust company to back bonds.
In Bismarck on October 26 Mrs Urba Parker Dixon filed a district court suit against Mrs J M Bartholomew wife of Judge Bartholomew of the supreme court claiming damages of 5000 dollars for alleged alienation of her husband s affections More well known figures in the state are named The report also notes a separate item from San Francisco dated October 23 describing the Alameda bringing 2250500 in English sovereigns from Australia as part of the trade balance
Washington October 24 St Paul national banks report an average reserve of 54 percent on all deposits as of October 5. Banks hold more than 10 million dollars in deposits.
General Nelson A. Miles presents the annual army report to the secretary of war praising efficiency and coastal fortification progress on the Atlantic and Pacific. He requests two more artillery regiments and five infantry regiments, urges Alaska naval surveys and three military posts there, and advises coast point protections and a peacetime strength of one enlisted per 1,000 people and a minimum of one per 2,000.
The Knapp roller boat was tested at Toronto on October 25 showing under perfect control but its cylinder plates broke under full speed. The vessel reached about six miles per hour and two miles before stopping. Knapp said increasing engine power could raise speed. plates will be strengthened before next trial.
Mr and Mrs Augustus K Gabriel of Lyons Iowa celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Eight children, fourteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren attended. The couple, German natives, were shipwrecked en route to America, met in that country, and married upon arrival. The husband is 76 and the wife 75.
In Greensburg Pennsylvania on October 27 the wildfires in the Laurelville mountain region continue to burn. Residents along the fire’s path are panic stricken as flames threaten homes and property.

Dredges barges and several schooners ashore with crews saved. Coastal towns report extensive damage and rising waterways threaten residences.
Seaside formerly Parker town is under water as heavy wind and surf hit the fishing village. The government trestle to Sandy Hook is badly damaged and air freight for the area passes over it. About 200 feet of piling was washed away and the bulkhead at Kays site was destroyed, endangering navigation as the West channel sandbar narrows.

Exopora Iowa Oct 27 Henry Lamphrecht a young man from Exopora has located a promising mining claim near Dawson City Alaska. He reports $12,000 already taken out and says he has not yet begun full work.
New Orleans reports 52 new fever cases and 11 deaths by 7 p.m. concealment of cases and harsh house quarantine spark public unrest. Parallel reports note three yellow fever cases in Memphis, four in Montgomery, seven in Mobile, and fourteen in Biloxi with related deaths.
Victoria B C Oct 27 The City of Seattle arrived with 100 passengers including Cliff L Moore and son and M Woodsing of Seattle who traveled from Dawson and via the Dalton trail They scout reports of famine and epidemic in Dawson City saying shortages are exaggerated Stores have halted provisioning to deter outsiders from cornering supplies Hon Clifford Sifton minister of the interior and party say from trails he traveled there will be no food shortage this winter and typhoid rumors are overstated

A Rapid City post is planned, 250 miles below Dawson, while Colonel Randall reports from St Michaels with 180 people aboard and orderly conditions.
Des Moines dispatch reports a Sunday night blaze in Elliker's livery stable at Baxter Iowa. The fire swept through the business district, destroying nearly the entire section of the town. Loss estimated at 30000 dollars with about 12000 dollars covered by insurance. Local authorities are investigating the cause.
