Union demonstrators in Illinois halted a train carrying workers from Indiana intended to replace striking miners in Pana. Authorities reported the stoppage disrupted transport and heightened labor tensions as the miners remain on the picket line.
Martial law after train holdup by striking miners in Tower Hill
Three hundred striking union miners from Pana halted a Baltimore and Ohio Southwestern train carrying 50 Washington Indiana negro workers bound to replace them. The men forced the black workers off, marched them to Tower Hill, and locked them in the depot until 10 pm. They then sent the workers to Indiana at union expense, while sheriffs deputies pursued.

Murder Reported Near Lake Teslin In Alaska?
A report from Victoria, B C, states Alphone Le Clair was killed by Xavier Lauzon near Lake Teslin during a chase that lasted five hours. Both men were part of a Quebec French Canadian party. Lauzon was killed by fellow party members after the pursuit.

Night of Terror in Pana as Armed Miners Patrol Streets
In Pana Illinois on October 3 two thirds of homes were empty as whites hid with families. Striking union miners and allies armed with shotguns and rifles patrolled blocks and lay in ambush awaiting black arrivals from Alabama Springside and Penwell stockades. Deputies kept the negroes contained while shots were heard around the mines and no clear results were reported.
