Des Moines reports Governor Jackson announces he will not seek another term. The era of a Republican second term was expected but the heavy burdens of office, strikes, militia service, court disputes over guard pay, pardons and patronage have left him disgusted and stepping down.
Washington reports Hastings the Hawaiian legation charge d'affaires says many American laborers in Hawaii face straits as opportunities for common labor are monopolized by Chinese and Japanese who work cheaper. He notes high class skilled labor is in demand and overseer and engineer roles are held by Americans or Europeans while skilled workers with capital find advantageous openings.
General Antonio Ezeta arrives in San Francisco from Mexico amid rumors of war with Guatemala to secure ammunition and supplies. Society reports suggest a romantic interlude as Ezeta courts Mrs. Bessie Paxton after meeting her in the California Hotel while a blind boy listened to his wartime tales.
New London Conn Nov 21 The torpedo boat Ericsson tried to run the speed course but heavy seas forced a return. All preparations are complete and a favorable weather window is hoped for the final trial.

In Lonpox Nov 21 a correspondent met Dr D Arsonville who described his method to revive respiration after apparent death from electricity. He cites 1887 experiments with animals and four human successes, attributing death to a nervous shock rather than organ failure and outlining artificial respiration as the remedy. He notes a link between the respiratory and nervous systems and references a spinal point he calls nonend de Lourensa.
Glenwood Wisconsin November 21 coopers at the Glenwood Manufacturing company end their strike over a 2 cent raise for tierces. The pay dispute is settled and workers return to duty.
In Matroon Illinois on November 21 Ela Parse, daughter of Mrs James Parse, was abducted from her home by a Gypsy wagon. A man in women’s clothes brandished a knife and dragged the girl into a wagon. The chief Will Beaton is suspected, as this is her second kidnapping and earlier capture was thwarted by officers.
In Grand Forks North Dakota a 17 year old Swedish orphan named Jens Olson has been diagnosed with Asiatic leprosy. Officials have isolated him in a small cabin on a farm with daily meals and caretaking. The case has caused widespread alarm in the western part of the county.
Thomas A. Taylor of ToLepo O says he chairs a millers committee that met in Chicago to discuss reducing flour output. He insists there is no trust and no intention to form one, only a plan to curb the surplus by limiting daily mill production.
An attempt to derail the eastbound mail on the Lake Shore road occurred near Come Earth. A pile of ties was placed on the tracks but a track walker found and moved them before the train arrived.

Warpaca Wisconsin November 21. L Hoffmier druggist has been closed up on several chattel mortgages. Liabilities are expected to total about 4500 dollars with assets insufficient to cover when the notes mature.
A 60 foot steel smokestack tore from the University Club building and crashed through a skylight at Handy Abstract on Washington street, injuring two and hurting many in the crowded offices. Ex-US District Attorney Milchrist narrowly escaped as glass struck, while H. H. Handy suffered multiple cuts. No one killed, physicians treated dozens of injuries, and the building remained structurally intact.
A special report from Gale, L. T. says the Malcolm gun boiler exploded at 10:40 a.m. killing Charles Malone, A Preston of Atlanta, and Will Robinson, a Texas engineer. Injured seriously were Mrs. John Malcolm, Hal Morris, George Townsend, and Alex Jenkins.
Wreck occurred near Fra zier Tennessee after an open switch caused freight No. 27 to derail. Fireman Thomas B. Matthews was killed. Engineer Lloyd Greems and brakeman Alexander Saunders were injured and likely to recover. Tramps Will Turner James Luther and Fred James sustained serious injuries.
Pittsburg Nov 21 five miners were killed in a Pennsylvania Railroad wreck at Larimer station twenty miles east of Pittsburg. The deceased were employed by the Westmoreland Coal company. The accident details remain to be clarified.
Mrs. Walter Church of the area three miles south of Hampton was killed when she was thrown from a buggy. She attempted to jump to save herself but struck her head and died two hours later.

Jefferson City Missouri November 21 The supreme court sentenced Marion Hedgespeth to 25 years in the penitentiary for robbing a Frisco express car in St Louis County in spring 1892. The raid yielded nearly $7000 in cash and about $3000 in valuables with only a small portion recovered.
The Danish interior minister M Hoerrinz issued a decree effective immediately prohibiting import of live cattle and fresh meat from the United States. Count Reventlow, the Danish minister, first learned of Denmark s action via Associated Press cable from Copenhagen and said the move likely follows a German request. He noted Denmark imports little American beef or meat products.
One mill of the NieGringhaus tin plate works restarted on Monday without Amalgamated Iron and Steel Workers support. Workers hired were non union and pay was cut by 25 percent. Police guarded the plant to prevent clashes though no violence occurred.
