London dispatch reports Generals Gomez Aranguron Arango and the late Adolfo Castillo opposing any autonomy and insisting on independence. It notes Castillo's betrayal by a friend of the Spaniards and that he was shot while leaving the supposed friend’s house.
In Havana province on Regalada farm Spanish cavalry charged insurgents led by General Alejandro Rodriguez. Twenty insurgents were killed and arms, General Rodriguez’s accoutrements, baggage, and letters were captured.
Spanish Minister de Lome hosted a dinner at the Metropolitan club honoring Senor Canalejas former minister of justice. Attending were prominent figures including Chief Justice Fuller and Justices Harlan Brewer White and Peckham.
Maprio Nov 15 United States Minister Woodford met Senor Moret minister of the colonies in a friendly interview. It is believed he assured Moret that the US government is satisfied with Blanco’s actions up to now.
In Barcelona on November 15, authorities seized 300 rifles found aboard the ship St. Phillips which sought shelter during a storm. The vessel had arrived from Antwerp and planned to unload along the Valencia coast, intended for Carlist forces.

Victoria British Columbia November 13 The steamer Farrallon arrived from Skaguay and Dyea with 60 returning prospectors and several customs and police officers from Lake Tagish. She brings the news that a horse tramway is being built at Skaguay.
Mount Vesuvius near Naples shows increased activity with daily eruptions since Monday. Columns of smoke and tongues of flame erupt from the central crater as showers of cinders fall, creating a spectacular display for observers.

In Louisville Kentucky on November 17 delegates from the Knights of Labor deny Past Grand Master Workman Sovereign planned to seek the 1900 presidency on a labor reform ticket. They insist his resignation aims to widen his work for the cause and does not signal a presidential bid.
Official Ohio returns indicate Bushnell wins governor by 28,101 as a Republican. Senate tallies 17 Republicans, 18 Democrats, and 1 fusion Republican on the Democratic ticket in Cincinnati. House has 58 Republicans, 47 Democrats, and 4 fusion Republicans. On joint ballot Republicans lead by five. adding fusion Republicans would give an 11 vote majority.

Mrs Henry Payson of Curzon Iowa burned to death while attempting to save her 4 year old daughter from a bonfire. The child’s clothing were ignited as she stood near the blaze and the mother clasped the child to extinguish the flames, both dying.
Helena November 17 the state supreme court sustains the constitutionality of the inheritance tax law passed by the last legislature. The measure imposes a 5 percent tax on bequests to non relatives when estate values exceed 100 dollars. A 1 percent tax applies to estates directly inherited where value exceeds 7500 dollars.
