May 24 Louisville Ky reports a 4 a m tornado striking the city level ing a roundhouse of the Louisville and Nashville Railroad and destroying homes and stores. Dozens of buildings damaged including Fricks drug store and Cudahy meat market with 25 houses blown down. One man killed in Moscow Wisconsin cyclone report follows.
A record rain cyclone struck Cleveland at 9:30 A.M. trees signs and wires fell everywhere. The Dean and Superior building collapsed injuring one man. Scaffolds at Erie and Superior and at the Cleveland Rolling Mills were wrecked. One man died and several were badly hurt. Reports say steel works in Louth were blown to pieces killing two and injuring two.
Severe wind storm caused considerable damage to the telegraphic network across the country. Communications were disrupted as wires fractured and poles toppled, impeding telegram service.

A section of a wall at the old Western Union building in Chicago collapsed at La Salle and Washington streets at 8 am. Five men were buried in the ruins. one man was killed and four were injured with identities largely unrecovered.
In St Louis on May 24 Judge Edmunds ordered Sheriff Patrick Staedt jailed for 10 days to pay forfeited bonds from prisoners arrested by top police. The order was stayed to let Staedt's attorney seek a writ of habeas corpus.
