Governor McKinley and party reached Union depot by special train from Chicago and were driven to the West hotel. Prominent politicians and newspaper men met them. he will address the State League of Republican Clubs in the evening.
Washington reports Representative Isidore Strauss of New York received an autograph letter from Mr. Wilson, head of the Ways and Means Committee. Wilson, writing from San Antonio, says his health is improving though he remains weak, with a doctor by his side and a steady return to activity as a norther settles and warmer weather is promised.
In Washington on March 28 Assistant Secretary Reynolds announced a major expansion of the pension rolls. The decision permits insane and permanently helpless minor children of deceased soldiers to receive pensions beyond age 16, restoring them to the rolls during life or while disability lasts, under the 1890 act.
