Five-Story Halsted Street Building Collapses in Chicago
A five story building at 67 Halsted Street collapsed at 1 30 am in high winds, crushing a adjacent two story brick residence at 765 Halsted. Seven bodies were recovered and several others injured as smoke rose from a stove fire amid the wreck. Police and firemen conducted rescue operations with casualties named including Amelia Smith and Pauline Morton. The doomed structure stood 150 feet deep with a white stone front and had been partially rebuilt after a prior fire.
