Power of Railroad Commissions to Make Joint Rates
The Minnesota railroad commission will file mandamus proceedings against the Minneapolis and St. Louis to enforce a joint coal rate of 1.95 from head of the lakes to New Ulm with St Paul and Duluth. The current 2.50 rate is challenged by New Ulm business interests as excessive. The case tests the constitutionality of the state railroad commission law granting rate adjustment power.

Settlement Probable as Cleveland Street Car Strike Talks
Cleveland June 23 The city council committee brokered a meeting between street railway company officers and striker representatives to settle the dispute. The main issue is how many of the old workers will be rehired if a settlement ends the strike. The company initially offered to reinstate 60 percent immediately and the rest when possible. The strikers demanded broader reinstatement and rejected that offer. The company then proposed reinstate all but 100 of the old men, and the talks adjourned with that proposal on the table.
