Boston July 18 At Music hall Peter Maher knocked out Frank Craig the colored wonder from New York in two rounds. Maher stood over the prostrate form waving his arms as the crowd looked on.
A Northern Pacific bridge over a morass near Granpy Forks North Dakota collapsed during the night. Passengers were transferred and trains are running as usual. Section men returned to work but no additional A R U members were on site.
Washington July 18 The tariff bill now blocks early adjournment as remaining major measures fade away. Senate sped through nine of fourteen big appropriation bills in six days setting records, with appropriations ranging from 125000 to 150000000.
The passage of Mr. McRae's land laws revision bill is foreseen in the senate. The Teller bill to reorganize Indian Territory courts is favored and may pass. Other minor measures loom, but early adjournment will limit reform to appropriations and tariff bills.
District Attorney Milchrist says an information will name Debs Howard Rogers and Keleher with contempt of court for violating the injunction. Judge Seaman will summon the defendants to appear and show cause why they should not be punished. The court may commit leaders to jail without bail with no habeas corpus release.
Hazleton Pa July 18 Two hundred sticks of giant powder exploded in the Stockton colliery No 8 gang of miners. Many bodies were destroyed and only small pieces could be found. The first men into the shaft were drivers and they are the only survivors. The death toll remains uncertain pending a living-man list.
The House approved by 125 to 27 a McCreary resolution endorsing the president and administration in suppressing strike-related lawlessness. Speeches by McCreary Catchings supported the measure while Pence and Bland criticized the administration. The day closed after an unsuccessful attempt to pass the Bailey bankruptcy bill with a quorum failure at 5:50 p.m.
London reports Oxford won five and a half events in the intercollegiate meet. Oxford took the 100 yard dash 120 yard hurdle one mile run 440 yard run and half mile run. Yale won hammer throwing shot put and broad jump. Running high jump tied.
The July 18 senate bill implements the Dockery commission’s key recommendation to reorganize the Treasury Department’s accounting system. The system, created in 1792 by Alexander Hamilton, has remained in place through revisions until now.

Ironwood Michigan July 18 The Norrie mine began work on stock piles and underground with about 125 men under militia guard. The miners voted to stay put amid a badly strained situation and fears of an outbreak as many strikers are destitute.
Interfered With the Marshals. T. C. Kennedy, Populist candidate for railroad commissioner, is among those arrested by U S marshals for obstructing the marshals on the arrival of the armed train last Sunday. There are two charges against him.
