H. J. Wilson, a 45 year old messenger for the First National bank, disappeared after collecting about $36,000. The bank later found $34,718 in checks and drafts in a bulky envelope and a note from Wilson claiming pickpockets robbed him on a street car. Officials conclude Wilson was the victim, not the thief, as some cash and checks were returned.
The Second Circuit certifies a question to the Supreme Court for October on whether a labor union can be punished under the anti trust law. The case involves D E Lowe a Danbury hat maker suing the American Federation of Labor and 200 members alleging circulars threaten patrons with an unfair list and loss of union support. Lowe seeks 240 000 damages under Connecticut trust law claiming triple damages for violations.
