Historic Fourth of July Celebration in Dakota Territory
A grand Fourth of July event in Beadle County Dakota Huron area featured a reception on the grand stand platform with Mayor Rice, Gov. Mellette, Judge Moody and Hon. S. Cox amid a huge crowd. Speeches praised statehood, national unity, and Dakota’s development while elaborate decorations and a fire drill, bicycle and foot races entertained attendees. The celebration culminated with a reception at the Campbell home and a special train departure.
