Brown county seeks state fair awards and rail line reforms
In Pierre the senate considered a Brown county petition for a state fair award appropriation for 1893-4 and approved substituting the board of railroad commissioners for the state treasurer on the board of equalization. Reed introduced a bill to require railroad companies to furnish freight cars and proper loading points. A general appropriation bill report was postponed to February 6. In executive session the governor named several appointees to boards and commissions, with a special order set for the 18th. The house killed a revenue bill after debate on ways and means. A slate of bills followed, including setting prairie fires as a felony, funding an insane hospital at Redfield, creating perpetual tax liens, and other measures on liens, foreclosures, and state institutions.
