State Legislature Organized in Pierre After Election
The two houses met in Pierre on Tuesday to elect leaders. F M Byrne of Faulk County presided as president pro tem of the senate with L M Simons as secretary and Roscoe Mercer as first assistant, W W Pierce chief engrossing clerk, and W Van Osterloo as first assistant sergeant at arms. In the house W A Chaney was elected speaker with J W Cone as chief clerk. The inaugural ball drew a large crowd despite bad weather. Jim Ellott drew notable chatter for not fitting easily with new allies, and he departed for home once organization completed.

Eight of nine grave seniors appeared at recitations and chapel in brand new Oxford caps and gowns. To avoid excitement the class entered chapel while students stood singing.
