Derailment near Rousseau halts freight train
Early Monday morning a large number of cars derailed at Rousseau fourteen miles east of Pierre. The train, loaded with railroad construction material from Huron, caused extensive wreckage but no injuries. A beam failure is suspected. the superintendent is in Pierre until the wreck is cleared. A wrecking crew was dispatched and service expected to resume by nightfall.

Death of North-Western engineer in bridge wreck near Canning
Mrs. Frank Booth mourns the death of her husband after a bridge collapse on the North Western near Canning. Fireman George McNabb was badly burned but expected to recover. The accident followed heavy winter snowmelt. a wrecking train from Pierre is clearing debris. Booth, a longtime North Western employee born in Batavia Illinois, leaves a widow and five siblings. He was active in Masons and locomotive brotherhoods. Funeral set for Thursday at 9 at Presbyterian church with Masonic and Elks participation, burial in Batavia.
