Sheriff-elect Laughlin of Hughes County visited Huron while Geo W Longstaff traveled from Watertown for a day in the city. M B A meeting added 34 new members, bringing total to over 100 with plans for a January installation and supper. A short lodge program and social hour followed, and ads tout remedies for catarrh and sinus issues.
Mr. R. Gray of Amenia New York touts Cham a's Cough Remedy as ideal for croup in children. He says using it at the first sign of hoarseness or croupy cough can prevent an attack. The remedy is sold at Holland Wheeler's Store.
Judge Jones denies that nonpayment of assessments ends membership in Farmers Mutual Insurance Company. Zentel remained liable for 1898 and 1899 assessments despite default. Jury directed to verdict for company for the contested amounts. Page text notes an unrelated drug advertisement at the end.
W R Link advertises musical instruments including mandolins violins and sewing items as available on easy terms.
Huron Lodge No. 444 BPOE hosted the second annual Elks Ball in the Opera House Friday. Sommers orchestra provided music from Sioux Falls. Dr Harold Steere led the grand march with Miss Fannie Goodspeed guiding the procession. Over one hundred couples danced, the gallery filled with spectators, and the event was financially solid and socially brilliant.

Newton Shiley and Eberhardt of Hutchinson county report cattle deaths from cornstalk disease tied to letting cattle gorge on dry husks. After delaying feeding before turning out, they lost twenty cattle, while other farmers in Hutchinson and southern counties faced hundreds of losses and many are burning stalks to prevent further deaths.
Huron Odd Fellows announce their annual Christmas ball with Dead Fisk’s orchestra and a festive program of nine musical numbers including overtures and solos. Ticket sale begins, with admission 25 cents and reserved seats extra. Also notes on local events, meetings, and upcoming holiday gifts.

Washington dispatch reports R. J. Gamble leaving for South Dakota to guard his senate bid. He will not return until after the legislature acts next month. Rumors say a Kittridge challenge is gaining momentum and Gamble grows uneasy about the outcome.
John G. Lund manager with Canby Minnesota office opens new agency at Iroquois South Dakota with L Heade and C G Swafford as managers. They buy and sell lands in Kingsbury Beadle and adjoining counties. Landowners seeking sale urged to contact the Iroquois office.
